Mary Sawyer is an Associate Professor at SUNY New Paltz who coordinates the English Education Program and co-directs the Hudson Valley Writing Project. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses that prepare her students to become outstanding English teachers for grades 7-12. She is currently completing research in comparing the literature secondary students are required to read in 2o10 compared to the titles required in 1988 (one generation ago) and in 1963 (two generations ago).
