Digital Rhetoric (ENG 399) will not meet this Monday night, but students should be working on ideas for their class projects.

ENG 180 theme

My theme for Composition II in Spring 2011 will be Sports / Athletics. Be aware of that if you’re a student signing up for my class (potentially).

Also, I’m looking for great sports-related articles, so feel free to let me know if you have any recommendations.

Simulations

Rhetorical simulations will probably be an important theme in my Spring ENG 399 class. Everything from GPS navigation systems to ebay reputation profiles to Pandora’s recommendation engine can be understood as simulations of someone. Those simulations are created sometimes by an individual and sometimes by a program or by others. They model a limited aspect of someone to influence that person’s decisions or movements–and they often work independently of a controller and can influence others as well.

Introduction to Writing Studies

I finally found a good book option for teaching Composition as Intro to Writing Studies. Downs and Wardle put one together that is coming out in December, 2010.
