History of fish in Lake Minnewaska – new paper in Northeastern Naturalist

David Charifson (lead author) and I are pleased to announce our publication in Northeastern Naturalist titled: History of Fish Presence and Absence Following Lake Acidification and Recovery in Lake Minnewaska, Shawangunk Ridge, NY.  The paper details the loss and unintentional reintroduction of fish in Lake Minnewaska, one of the Sky Lakes on the Shawangunk Ridge.

David is a SUNY New Paltz Biology graduate (’14) and is currently a Phd student studying ecology and evolution at SUNY Stony Brook. He worked extensively (2 summers) on this project as part of Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Summer Undergraduate Research Experience funding and external grants.

This work is the culmination of a partnership between the SUNY New Paltz, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and Mohonk Preserve, and represents the first of a series of papers about the ecology of the Sky Lakes on the Shawangunk Ridge.
