I am a core faculty member in SUNY New Paltz’s Counseling Graduate Program, which offers Master of Science degrees in mental health counseling and school counseling.
Graduate training in counseling is academically and personally demanding. It requires intellectual mastery of counseling skills, theories, research, and ethics. Translating this intellectual mastery into being an effective counselor also necessitates self-examination and reflection in an ongoing process of personal development and growth. Both the academic and personal development aspects of counselor training are emphasized in all of my graduate counseling courses.
